Hanging on the wall in our conference room is a nondescript reminder of a different era. The maps speckled with pushpins may be scientific relics (advancements in GIS likely render it impossible to find a scientist still using this method of reporting), but they also represent a humbling reminder of our beginnings. When our founder, Paul W. Howey, designed the first PTT under 100g, successfully deployed it on a Bald Eagle, and cryptically watched the data come through the Argos system, few imagined that this first eagle would lead the way for so many additional journeys, and change the way that we view movement data forever.
Times have changed but we stay dedicated to our cause.
Integrating the fields of electronics, ecology, and engineering with artisan craftsmanship drives us and conservation is the fueling motivation behind each new design, but our team is the reason we can do what we do. We understand that the manufacturing process requires a balance of art and science, which our diverse team of skilled artists, scientists, engineers, electronics technicians, and business professionals embodies through teamwork to advance our business and technologies.
Located in Columbia, Maryland, near Washington, D.C. and as a global leader in wildlife satellite tracking technology, we have worked tirelessly since our incorporation in 1991 to include the newest technologies (such as solar, GPS, and GSM) into our devices. Among our achievements is a Solar PTT weighing 2g, the lightest long-term (solar-recharging) Argos transmitter on the market.
Additionally, in 1997, we designed and built the first pop-up satellite archival tag (PSAT) for tracking marine life. Over the last three decades, our innovative R and D approach has allowed us to expand the capabilities of our tags while continuing to reduce their size.
As a company owned and operated by biologists, we share your passion for conservation and understanding animal movements. We craft each transmitter with great care to create durable, long-lasting, and high-quality devices so you can achieve your study goals.
Our hardworking and experienced team is committed to your continued success. Feel free to contact us with any questions or give us a call M–F 9am–5pm ET at (+1) 410-715-5292.
All of our Argos PTTs are CNES/CLS certified and our GSM transmitters are PTCRB certified for worldwide use.
