PTT-100 50 gram Solar PTT
The 50 gram solar PTT uses
the same well proven circuitry
of our other PTTs, but it is powered
by sunlight collected by its
high efficiency solar array.
The 50 gram Solar powered PTT-100 has similar characteristics to the lighter 35 gram version. However, it uses a larger solar array capable of charging the internal batteries faster or in poorer light. The solar duty cycle timer takes care of the battery charge control and commands the PTT to transmit during the ON time of its duty cycle dependent on the state of charge of the battery. Three hours of exposure to a bright sky is enough to power the PTT for 24 hours. A heavier though more substantial antenna is used.
Based on battery manufacturers' data, the solar powered PTT-100s can be expected to last for about three years, if undamaged by the bird. One researcher has reported a lifetime of over five years for an early version of these PTTs!
